Spectators are welcome at Finishers HQ. If you can't make it out, FloGrappling has you covered.
Finishers is back with the second Women's Survivor Series, and if you watched the first one, you already know the format delivers. Eight teams of five women competing in a Quintet-style tournament. Submissions only. One team walks away. Everyone else goes home empty handed.
Last year, Slaughter Squad took the whole thing, with Sharon Meguira, Marissa Pacelli, Peyton Letcher, Vanessa Comeau, and Michelle Estrada putting together one of the more memorable runs in Finishers history. Two of those five — Meguira and Pacelli — are back this year on Team Tren. Make of that what you will.
Let's get into the teams.
The Teams
Submission Cartel
Claire Butterfield | Erica Amoroso | Mai Yankello | Caitlin Ghalayini | Emily Mae Wooten
This team is representing Western PA and bringing some Pittsburgh energy to Bethlehem. Mai Yankello is a name Finishers fans will recognize from last year, and this time she's back with a squad from her hometown. Submission Cartel has the talent and the regional pride to make a real run in this bracket. The format rewards teams that build momentum early, and this group has every reason to come out firing.
D'arce Angels
Allie Hluhan | Gabby Phillips | Solans Kennedy | Jenna Adrienne | Ansley Cox
Ansley Cox is a former Finishers champion and an absolute force of nature. She picked up a submission win at last year's Women's Survivor Series before running into Marissa Pacelli, and she's back with unfinished business. The D'arce Angels have a name to live up to so they better be hunting chokes all day or they'll never hear the end of it....specifically from me.
Team Tren
Marissa Pacelli | Nicole Mathew | Alexa Rondini | Sharon Meguira | Kaiya Jackson
This is one of the teams to watch. Pacelli and Meguira won this whole thing last year and they're back, which means they know exactly what it takes to get through a full day of Quintet-style competition. Pacelli in particular is dangerous from everywhere and has a finishing ability that stands out on any card she's on. Nicole Mathew and Kaiya Jackson give this team serious depth. If Team Tren gets rolling, they're going to be very hard to stop.
Dawg House
Molli Zborowski | Cindy Ung | Amanda Mazza | Kate Egan | Kelly Zaccheo
Full disclosure, this team is full of my friends and my wife, so I will not be unbiased here. However, I'm not a judge for any of these matches so... here we go.
Objectively, this roster is stacked. Molli Zborowski is a former 145lb champion. Kate Egan is the current 145lb champion. So yes, two of the five women on this team have held the same belt. Cindy Ung is a former 125lb champion. Kelly had a highlight reel submission in last year's event and Mazza has been on a tear since coming back from Reddit famous injury. The experience and hardware on this team is genuinely ridiculous. Dawg House is a legitimate title contender and I would say that even if I didn't have a personal stake in it.
Team Chimera
Katie Laablalli Beiirut-Kloth | Adriana Gutowska | Celine Haga | Fabiana Jorge | Jessica Collette
Katie Laablalli Beiirut-Kloth and Jessica Collette were both at last year's event and acquitted themselves well. Collette in particular had a strong showing, picking up multiple wins before being eliminated. We're also seeing the return of Fabiana Jorge who was on the ORIGINAL 10th Planet quintet team. This team has experience in the format and won't be caught off guard by the pace or the pressure of the bracket. Don't sleep on Team Chimera.
Useless Inverters
Zania Walker | Amy-Lynn Camilli | Angelina Hernandez | Kelly Chan | Aleah Ardelle
Zania Walker opened last year's event with a draw against Lauren Sears, which is about as good a result as you can ask for in your first match of the day. Kelly Chan is someone to keep an eye on.. Angelina Hernandez has been putting in a lot of competition reps lately, and that kind of activity tends to show up as the day goes on. The Useless Inverters are exactly the kind of team that can catch someone sleeping and flip a bracket ( <-- pun in case you missed it).
Warriors in the Garden
Keren Or | Christine Vogel | Madison Crockett | Rachel Yang | Elise Cantu
Rachel Yang appeared at last year's event as well. Christine Vogel brings experience and toughness to this roster. Warriors in the Garden is a team with something to prove, and in a Quintet format, one hot performer can carry a team deep into the bracket. If someone on this squad gets on a run early, things could get interesting.
Team Takedown
Skyler Munson | Lauren Sears | Addison Decker | Aaremey Cathey | Talia Nierman
Lauren Sears competed at last year's event and is back with a completely different team around her. Skyler Munson had a standout performance at last year's tournament, submitting Terah Heiber with a triangle armbar before being eliminated later in the round. Team Takedown is loaded with women with a lot of late round experience.
The Men's Match: Derin Yusufi vs Sid Tavalaro — 170lbs Title
Derin Yusufi (Kingsway) vs Sid Tavalaro (Standard Jiu Jitsu)
We've got one men's superfight on the card and it's a good one.
Derin and Sid is the kind of matchup that has real match of the night potential regardless of what else is happening around it. Two experienced competitors, a title on the line, and stylistic elements that should make for an exciting back and forth. I'm genuinely excited for this one. Don't tune out between team rounds.
Final Thoughts
The Women's Survivor Series format is one of the most fun things Finishers puts on all year. The Quintet style creates momentum swings, pressure situations, and those moments where one competitor goes on a run and suddenly changes everything. Last year delivered, and the roster this time around is at least as good if not better.
Team Tren and Dawg House look like the top contenders on paper, but this format has a way of rewarding teams nobody expected. A hot opener from the right athlete can flip a bracket in a hurry.
